As part of transparency, I’ve known the author of the book via the internet for several years. My personal knowledge of her contributions to the health and education of children and women in Honduras certainly had some influence on how I read the book. And I did a short video interview you can find on her website; it was done out of friendship, not as a paid promotion.The book details many aspects of her life I was unaware of previously, but it only reinforced what I had come to know by personal experience. The author is a remarkable person with a good sense of humor and is unapologetically engaged (positively) with life and those around her. Through the eyes of this book, I can see more clearly the circumstances that shaped her character.The book is both entertaining and inspiring as it chronicles her personal emergence from difficulty and transformation. A mischievous sense of humor sometimes flashes into brilliance, and honesty about herself and her life creates a sense of spaciousness that permeates the writing. And there’s also adventure. The willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and to face and overcome trauma are key parts of the transformation threads that weave every heroine’s story.It’s a good read – both entertaining and thought provoking – something few books achieve. I think many will enjoy it. As a bonus, the author has indicated that profits from the book will be used to fund her projects in Honduras – projects that include medical and dental health care, education, and occupational mentoring.
